‘Tara’ (Top), a less than one-year-old female red panda, and male panda ‘Jixiang’, on June 5, 2013, at the ‘Tête d’Or’ park zoo in Lyon. As part of a program to assist in the protection of the species, ‘Jixiang’ was introduced into the female’s habitat in Lyon in hopes that the two will mate and have young ones. The red panda is an endangered species listed on the red list of the International Union for the Preservation of the Nature since 1960, largely due to the reduction of its natural habitat and to poaching.
